Good News from the Humane News

SEAL FUR PRICES FALLEN AND THREE FOURTHS OF SEALS SCHEDULED TO DIE WERE SPARED.\

There was a dramatic decline in the number of seals scheduled to be bludgeoned or shot to death. According to PETA, more than 300,000 seals were scheduled to die but the price of seal fur has fallen as the public's disgust over the slaughter increases. As a result, more than 200,000 did not suffer a cruel fate. The blood baths on the ice is shown in the media-where hooks are sent smashing into their skulls, eyes, cheeks or mouth. The European Union and the U>S. Have banned seal products. Canada is preparing to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. PETA has set up a new website: OLympicShame2010.com so that you can help save baby seals.

More good news.

EPA IMPLEMENTS NON-ANIMAL EYE IRRITATION TESTING

On June 2nd, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that it will use a new labeling initiative which will mean the difference between life and death for countless rabbits that would otherwise be blinded and killed in inhumane and outmoded eye irritation tests. Such consumer groups as Procter and Gamble, Dial, Clorox, Colgate Palmolive, S>C> Johnson and Sons, etc. and animal protection organizations with support from the Institute for In Vitro Sciences have developed this groundbreaking effort!!!! According to the HSLF, the conventional animal test involved using crude 1940's scoring system, the degree of swelling, inflammation and other types of eye injury for up to 3 weeks WITHOUT PAIN RELIEF to determine the degree to which irritant effects are reversible over time.

Well first NEVER buy any seal products, that goes with out saying.

The second is always check any cleaning products and cosmetic products to make sure it says on the product. Not Tested On Animals. There are many companies out there that do not and as you can see from the article there will be many more. I was just recently browsing my cleaning product isle in the grocery to see how things were going and I was shocked to see how many companies have jumped on the band wagon with this. I am so very happy. I would always expect this from the companies that you find in your health food store, but not in the regular grocery. Go out there and give it a look.

Pleas spare our fellow living creatures from pain and torture and death. You don't need a seal coat or seal oil or want to have poor bunnies, yes bunnies, tortured because you should already know not to put dish soap in your eyes.

Check out www.leapingbunny.com for companies that do not test on animals. There are many great companies out there that are compassionate. Just to name a few, I use only Mary Kay cosmetics and Paul Mitchell hair products. They are both out to spare of furry friends from harm.

Almost two complete weeks and still no cigarettes and I managed to lose .6 lbs. Thats point 6. I totally gained 5 pounds. Not bad and it is on its way out.

Art Sunday

A few days ago a good friend of mine mentioned that she felt fall in the air. I completely dismissed her idea by asking what planet she was living on. I can just be so sweet.

Well in the last two days I have been wondering if maybe I know what she means.

We have had very heavy monsoon rains over the past three days and because of all the moisture the temperature has fallen at least 10 degrees and in the morning when I wake up you could almost imagine fall. Yesterday when the wind was blowing and the rain was coming down I expected if I walked out side it would be cold.

So my apologies to my friend.  I know you know who you are and for the days getting shorter and the leaves changing color I give us a little something to look forward to for Art Sunday.

I just love Grandma Moses

Enjoy

checking in

Not a whole lot exciting going on, not even anything boring going on.

Just thought I would let you know that I still am not smoking, I have now completed a full seven days with no cigarettes. It actually is getting easier by the day. I do still day dream about them but I have the strength to over come.

I am trying to curtail the eating. Stopped arobacising but I am walking in the morning before it gets too hot to breath. Noticed today that one of my neighbors houses burned down. I had noticed a great deal of smoke coming from that area on my way back from Sedona on Saturday. Sure enough it was my neighbor. Saw what was left of his place this morning and read about it in the local paper today. Something about gun powder in a storage shed. Give me a break.  You would think that people would know better than to store gun powder in a hot storage shed. Oh well. These mobiles go up fast. Always scares the hell out of me. Any time I leave for an extended period of time I make sure the cats have their cat door open so they can get out if something happens. When I go out of town the neighbors are on call.

So much for some excitement.

Enjoy your day

Thanks for the advice

Just an update for all you wonderful people out there who are giving me great advice for my battle with that nicotine addiction and what an addiction it is. I think this is the hardest time I have had quiting smoking. I have gone for years and years with out a cigarette, this time, very bad. For all of you out there who have never smoked, this is not just a habit. That would be easy. Nicotine is a Class A drug. Just as bad as heroin as far as the addiction is concerned. If you drink coffee, have you ever really tried to stop or given it up. Caffeine is another one of those fun drugs and it is in everything, chocolate, soda, coffee, tea. It is all just too much.

So today I spent far away from the house. My poor friend I was with had to put up with me banging my head against my steering wheel on and off and a wee bit of yelling because I left my electric nicotine machine at home. But I did good and got home and just sucked on that thing. Better now, can't use that too much, the idea is to get away from the nicotine, but at least it isn't coming out of those nasty cancer, heart attack producing cigarettes. Now it is playing solitaire and as you can see pounding away on the computer. This is also helping with keeping food out of my mouth.

Please know I just love you all for being so supportive because it really does help. I will try the carrots and the tooth brushing , keeps the mouth busy and Vickie I am deep breathing as I type.

Have a great Sunday. I will be out and about visiting. In real life and blog land.

Susan

Almost forgot, great new in the news this morning. House of Reps passed the Save the Wild Mustang Act. I am so happy. When it comes to the Senate I want all you people to call your senators and tell them to support saving wild horses and not to kill them. We are talking 30, 000 horses and burros killed, no can't happen. Lets spay and neuter and set up adoptions and rescues.

Smoking

Had a minor coronary last night and ran out and bought a pack of cigarettes and smoked about 10 of them. This morning I woke up and immediatley went out a threw the rest of them in the trash. Back to normal today. Will fill my time with cleaning the place and being by the pool.

Man was it hot yesterday 111, where I live, might have to wait till sunset to even go out and get in the pool.

I do plan on spending some time with a friend and doing some shopping. That will make me smile and not think of cigarettes. I know this will be a slow and tedious process but in the end there will be no more smoking.

Have a good Saturday.

two things, well it is Friday and the beginning of my forth day without cigarettes. I didn't even use my nicotine thing yesterday. Still exercising. Cool Also found out you can copy things you blog to Facebook. I did this but haven't been over to see how it took. Multiply has a page and a app on Facebook. Very cool

Garden update

Well there are just photos every where.

Store bought marigolds....Can't seem to fit much more writing in next to the photos so we shall just see how this all comes out.

Well I know it doesn't seem like much but to me it's a big deal. I don't often do what I call a garden in this dry state, but this year I actually planted flowers from seed and they are finally starting to bloom (see photos). I got most of this stuff in the ground late in the season around the end of May but since we have a long growing season here hopefully they will all bloom before the real cold sets in around November. They will really start to grow when the real hot weather is gone. We are starting to get some monsoon action which helps.

So what you will be looking at are my sunflowers (tall things) which have yet to bloom but I have hopes. They suffered from some caterpillars for awhile but we have finally gotten rid of them. Then we have the marigolds I planted from seeds, the beautiful burgundy with orange, backed by holly hocks which haven't bloomed yet but they do need to grow for a while. The green stuff next to these guys is wild mint which is just great in the old glass of ice tea. The little flowers, white ones are ox alis (sp) that I am growing from a cutting I got. They are a great perennial, clover looking leaves with beautiful pink and white flowers. Then we move on to more marigolds and some other orange thing that I bought at Home Depot. As you can tell I love marigolds and the color orange. ( Marigolds are also good at keeping bugs away.

I tried to get a shot of my garden horny toad but he wouldn't come out. He takes good care of the flowers and eats all the bugs. He live under the holly hocks and marigolds. Hopefully when I water tomorrow he will come out for a photo op.

Well hope you enjoy what there is of my garden

I am happy to say that Multiply has finally sorted out my being notified by email when someone does something on here or contacts me. See you all more often.

Think I will put my updates for smoking cessation instead of taking up my blog pages.

Ok now I got it. Suppose to be like Facebook. Just found it loitering down at the bottom of my page. I need a new lay out.

Onward and upward

Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful comments on my smoking issues.

Aimless, saw that bit in the paper today. Cigarettes here if you don't go to the reservation are almost $8 a pack, not quite trillions but close enough so I am thinking about the money I am going to save. At least $21 dollars a week since I only smoked about one pack every two days.

Well I have made it through the second day. Excercised again. Today I am going to try and not use food for my cigarette substitute. This should be interesting. To tell the truth I have been using an electronic nicotine conveyance. Like gum but gum makes me sick, so I suck on these things that look like cigarettes and give me nicotine but nothing else. I need to stop that though because I want to get away from that habit real fast. I know people who have quite smoking but are still chewing nicotine gum. Not for me, so we will see how it goes today.

Love all the support, thanks again. You are all great friends.

Smoking

Ok yesterday was my first day with out a cigarette. Of course I ate my face off but I would rather do that than smoke. Started an arobic work out thing. Using a DVD I have. Hope that will start to get rid of some of the pent of cravings. Do jumping jacks instead of smoking.

So I guess I will check in each day and see how many I can do before I totally lose my mind.

Wish me luck.

Holiday

Well I hope everyone had a good holiday. I took most of Saturday off and all of Sunday and Monday off. Just finally getting back to work today. I really needed that reat. I have been working straight through for the last 14 days and I have had it.

I must admit I have not been good with catching up with everyone because I have been over playing on Face book. There are some of you there witch is great but I am sending out feelers to see how many more of you I can get over there. I must say I am having fun with it. Don't get me wrong. I love this place but I have found many old friends from my past on there and that is really exciting. and they send me notices when someone visits which I have yet had Multiply do for me. I have tried and tried to get this message thing sorted out. I have sent them emails, everything, it just doesn't work and it frustrates me. Oh well. I am still pissed off at Yahoo for ever messing with 360. That new place looked good for a second and then it turned out to be junk. If any one out there that I don't know about is on Face book let me know.

I am not working too much this week so I hope to be catching up. The cigarette not smoking thing isn't working too well. I really have to spend more time on the computer.

Love ya all

Susan and the fur kids.
