Entry for December 1, 2007/ World AIDS Day
Entry for November 30, 2007/ friday Five
Friday Five, five things I would most like to get from Santa.
Well that is pretty easy for me.
1. My Jake dog being able to walk right again.
and then after that I would love 4 new clients. That would really brighten up my life.
You can't always wish for goodies when your life is not what it should be. I need business to take care of me and my furry family and then I can think about treats.
So ho ho ho.

Entry for November 29, 2007/ Saying Goodbye to Termite, Sad Day
My Termite
Heard some very bad news today from good friends of mine. Their wonderful doggie Termite, who I know well and has always been my sweetie, is going to have to be humanely killed on Monday, she has a tumor on her heart and cancer through the rest of her body and is probably already in great pain and would pass on soon, just weeks, anyway but it would be a terrible death. It is so sad. Termite is a precious pup and her family and friends will miss her very much.
Sad day

I'm sick, sinus infection I think. There is a giant fire on the other side of the mountain from me, I can see it. I think the smoke is what is making me ill. Wish it would go away.

Entry for November 26, 2007 Astronomy Picture of the Day
This was too beautiful not to post.
Astronomy Picture of the Day
Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.

Explanation:This spectacular sky is mostly human-made. Once a year, theLight Station at Pigeon Point nearSan Francisco,California,USA is lit as it was over 100 years ago. During this time, light generated by fivekerosene lamps pours through 24 rotatingFresnel lenses, warning approaching ships to stay away. Early last week, light emanating from the Pigeon Point Lighthouse wasparticularly picturesque because of a thin fog, also blurring the distant Moon. During the latter 1970s, thelighthouse was guarded by an 800 pound pig named Lester. In modern times, the light house is still active but has been supplied with amore efficient flashingaerobeacon.

Off to Prescott
- Entry for November 24, 2007/ Off to Prescott
-
It is only the second day after Thanksgiving and I am going shopping, well not really.I am off to the next biggest town from us, Prescott, where there is a large mall and many box stores, all we have is a giant Wal-Mart, shows the type of place I live in. Prescott use to be the capital of Arizona and is a very interesting town. I suppose it classifies as a city but a small one. The downtown has the old court house, beautiful building and many over 100 year old bars on Montezuma Street, otherwise known as Whiskey Row. The town is full of Victorian style houses because that was what was going on back east at the time and the upper class in the state capital wanted to fit right in. It is very interesting what people thought was glamor back in the 1890's in the southwest. The houses are beautiful though. Many cowboy and historical movies have featured Prescott in their stories, Arizona was really the wild west back then and Prescott was the only bastion of civilization in the whole state. Glad they moved the capital to Phoenix though because it keep the town of Prescott pretty close to it;s original state, downtown anyway. Where I am going is a whole different kettle of fish. Right before you get into town you drive through box store heaven and of course the mall, there is Costco. Giant Wal-mart, Pet smart multiple strip malls, small outdoor malls and the reason I am really going there the giant Multiplex Theater. I really need to get out of the valley I live in so my friend Megan and I decided to not only get in a movie, not sure which one yet and do a little shopping, she will be shopping I will be watching. We should be able to make a day of it and it will be real winter over there as they are about 10 degrees colder than we are. Always like to go there in the summer.
I posted my fall wreath again to let some people who asked know that the poor thing lasted only about two weeks before it completely dried out, we haven't had rain in three months, but it still looks good, just dry. I will keep it up till the Winter holiday one goes up, Winter Holidays, that is my way of being so politically correct I could gag. Covers everything, offends no one.
So that is my day. Hope you all are having a good one.
Enjoy

Entry for November 18, 2007/ ART SUNDAY
I was going through some photos of works by Grandma Moses that I have on my pics waiting for me to do an Art Sunday post on her, I guess.
Well here it is. I have always felt a certain sense of autumn and Thanksgiving everytime I look at her work, even it is a painting of the middle of summer or deep winter. It must be the country thing. Any way, I was drawn to her today.
Below I have a link to some biographical information on her, if you care to give it a look.
This first painting is titled "Over The Bridge To Grandma's"
HALLOWEEN... AND NOW CHRISTMAS....
HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE LITTLE GRANDMA MOSES SHOWING.

Entry for November 17, 2007 More Tips From the ASPCA
After two years I am still posting Holiday Pet Alerts from the ASPCA, I think it is important for everyone to know the dangers that can befall your furry friends during the holidays. So to help keep them safe, give this a read.
From the ASPCA's Web site
PET HEALTH ALERT: NO SWEETS FOR THE SWEET THIS THANKSGIVING
For many people, overindulging in holiday goodies may result in a few extra pounds—but the consequences for our animal companions are much greater if they accidentally ingest cookies, candy or baked goods containing chocolate. In any form ranging from one-ounce baking squares to hand-dipped truffles, chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both methylxanthines that can cause stimulation of the central nervous system, an increase in heart rate and tremors. Clinical signs—vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, hyperactivity, and increased thirst, urination and heart rate—can be seen with the ingestion of as little as two ounces of baking chocolate by a ten-pound dog.
And while sugar-free sweets may be a healthier choice for you, gum or candies made with xylitol can make your pets ill. Dogs who’ve ingested significant amounts may develop a sudden drop in blood sugar, resulting in depression, loss of coordination and seizures. Data from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) also appears to point to a link between xylitol ingestion and liver failure in dogs.
Please take care this holiday season to keep all candy out of your pets' reach—and don't let them in the kitchen unsupervised if you’re baking with chocolate. If you suspect your pet may have eaten chocolate or candies containing xylitol, or any other potentially poisonous substance, call your veterinarian or the APCC's emergency hotline at (888) 426-4435 for round-the-clock telephone assistance. For more information on poison prevention, visit APCC online.

Entry for November 16, 2007/ Reicpe Friday
This is a great recipe for a mushroom roast that I got from Trine a couple of years ago for all my veggie friends out there who don't eat Turkey for Thanksgiving. I made this last year and it was so good I ate the whole in two days.
Ingredients ( the measurements are in grams and milliliters) most packages have grams next to the oz weight. Also milliliters are on most measuring cups. This was from a Danish cook book, that is why the measurements are different.
550 g mushrooms ( I use portabello and regular)
2oo g nuts ( I used pecans)
2 stalks of celery
1 apple ( I used gala)
3 Tbsp breadcrumbs
100 ml cream
3 eggs
salt and pepper
1 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp ginger
6 sheets puff pastry ( frozen)
Method"
Clean and chop the mushrooms coarsely and saute them in a little butter. Grind the nuts in a blender, food processor. Mix the mushrooms and the nuts and add the slice celery and the apple diced. Stir in breadcrumbs, cream and eggs. Season with salt, pepper , allspice and ginger.
Defrost the puff pastry if required and place them next to each other Roll them out. Spread the mushroom mix over the middle of the pastry and wrap the pastry around. Decorate with strips of pastry (glue egg). Brush the whole package with egg and bake for 45 minutes at 390 F.
It is also possible to prepare this dish without the puff pastry. Then you shape the mushroom mix bread shape and bake it in the oven for 40 minutes at 390 F. This is what I did last year but I am going to try the pastry this time.
Serve with all the usual goodies. I am going to try and make a mushroom gravy with out drippings. Just try cooking up all the usual spices in mushroom broth and then mix in flour or corn starch. Hope it works.
Hope who ever tries this really enjoys it, I know I did.
Susan
Hello
Over here visiting some folks, so I thought I would just drop a few words.
First I miss all of you who are here all the time now, but I will try and catch up. I have found a few features here that I like, as in you can edit your comments, Fab. Great for my typing and spelling errors.
Two days till my second Anniversary on yahoo, screwed it up and wrote my blog on it today. Oh well. You might want to check it our, most of you know where I am over there.
I guess most of you can tell that I am still a little grumpy about so many of my friends moving over to Multiply, but life happens. I must remember this and let go. Letting go is a good thing.
I will be posting a recipe tomorrow for Deb's Friday thingy, a mushroom roast for those of us who do not want to kill a turkey for Thanksgiving, I made it last year and it was delicious. Our old friend Trine had posted it a few years back. I know there are a few of you who are veggies and might appreciate this.
So have a great day.

Entry for November 15, 2007/ Second Anniversary
My second anniversary on Yahoo 360. Can you believe it. Went back and checked to see what it was about and it was a link to the ASPCA to help everyone learn how to help animals. Hence the doggie pointing at you all today because this is the little critter I have since chosen to announce all animal related blogs.
I have been very melancholy about this anniversary. All the insanity regarding what is happening to 360 and many friends moving to different blogs and trying to keep up and wondering if I really care has just worn me out. After all this time though I have decided that the effort was always worth it and I will be banging out blogs here as long as I can.
I have been looking over a few of my old blogs, yes they are still there, and they are fun and some even interesting. Really liked some of my posts for Art Sunday, back when I was really feeling motivated and being creative. Soon I will be coming up on the third of quite a few things, Thanksgiving, World Aids Day, My birthday, Christmas, Solstice, etc. Last year was a really big time for everyone to bring out all the goodies and I hope this year will be the same. You will all have to hear me rant and rave about AIDS still being around and bemoan my getting older.
Well here is Happy Anniversary to me and my blog, may there be many more.
Enjoy the day
Susan
This is too funny, I just went back to that first blog to make sure it was about the ASPCA, which it was and guess what, today is not my anniversary, Saturday , the 17th, is, but since I don't usually blog on Saturday I will leave all this for today, hey why not. As we use to say back in the day "Close enough for Rock and Roll"

Entry for November 04, 2007/ Art Sunday
Recently I heard on National Public Radio that there was a monumental Edward Hopper exibit at The Washington Nation Gallery. In conjuntion with this exibit an opera was being written that was taken from five of Hopper's paintings. In this post I will give you information regarding this opera ( or as it is jokingly known as an Hoppera) and the five paintings of his that were the inspiration for the opera. The opera is title "Later That Same Evening". The following was taken from the National Gallery Web Site Links.
Painter Edward Hopper's urban scenes are among the most enduring and popular images of the 20th century. Now a joint project of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the National Gallery of Art, and the UM School of Music will bring five of his paintings to life in a new production of the Maryland Opera Studio, November 15-18 at the Center, and again on December 2 at the National Gallery.

For Tammy
- November 1st 2007
-
No pictures, no frolics, my blog today is for our friend Tammy, other wise know as Night Howl, who while in the midst's of carving her pumpkins and making ready for a holiday she loves very much, her Dad passed away. I believe she has been taking care of him for a long time and that is really about all I know, except that I am so sorry for her. Losing a parent is about the hardest thing you can have happen to you.
So I say, Tammy , my thoughts are with you, much love to you in this hard time, take solace in you family and keep those furry ones near you for comfort.
