Entry for October 28, 2007/ Movie Monday

I very rarely post for Movie Monday, but this week I have two good movies that I think should be seen.

The first is a wee bit in the Halloween vein, of course, it is called The Others. Starring Nicole Kidman it was written and directed by Alejandro Amenabar.

A truly great horror story in the spirit of the old, use your own imagination, scary movies. Very reminiscent of the original The Haunting.

It takes place on the Isle of Jersey off the coast of England. Very atmospheric, lots of fog. A young wife and her two children are living there, nice home, waiting for the return of their husband and father from WWII.

The children have a disease that prevents them from being in light, so many drawn curtains, can't leave the house in the daytime, many religiously strict rules and religious lessons regarding children when they die.

They must hire new servants as it seems the old ones just walked out, when three people come to the door about the positions things get real exciting.

No more, to many twists and turns to the ending.

This movie is a real must see if you haven't already, it was very popular.

The next movie is fantasy and has nothing to do with Halloween. "Neverwas" just watched this movie for the first time this past weekend. With Ian McKellen, William Hurt, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange rounding out a fantastic cast you can't go wrong. I don't know why I had never heard of it. One of those little movies that you never see till you come upon it in the video store.

A young well educated psychiatrist (Eckhart) goes to work at an asylum, Millwood, where his father had been a patiant. His father was an extremely well known author famous for having written a young persons book entitled Zachery Small and the Land of Neverwas. A fairytale that changed the life of many people. A book full of hope. Zach Reily, the son and psychiatrist was Zachery Small. There are many paths in this movie, magical wonderful paths where some delusions are reality and proving that as Zachs father says,"some stories find the story teller".

This is one of those movies that will just melt your heart and really blow your mind. It is a magical fantasy that could and should be real.

Go get it and watch it right now. Oh it is so good.

Enjoy both.

Susan
