Explanation:How does a space shuttle thatlanded in California get backto Florida for its nextlaunch? The answer is by ferry.NASA operates two commercialBoeing 747 airplanes modified to carry aspace shuttle on their backs. Designated officially asShuttle Carrier Aircraft orSCA, the 747s were made for commercial flights but bolstered by NASA with several struts, stabilizers, and electronic monitors. Spanning about 70 meters in length, thetwo aircraft's combined mass is nearly 150,000 kilograms.Pictured above, the space shuttleAtlantis is shown beingferried back toNASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida in September 1998.

Check out the Movie "Astronaut Farmer" on DVD with Billy Bob Thornton. All you space nuts , like me, out there will love it. Very family and dreams come true type of movie.
