Good News from the Humane News

SEAL FUR PRICES FALLEN AND THREE FOURTHS OF SEALS SCHEDULED TO DIE WERE SPARED.\

There was a dramatic decline in the number of seals scheduled to be bludgeoned or shot to death. According to PETA, more than 300,000 seals were scheduled to die but the price of seal fur has fallen as the public's disgust over the slaughter increases. As a result, more than 200,000 did not suffer a cruel fate. The blood baths on the ice is shown in the media-where hooks are sent smashing into their skulls, eyes, cheeks or mouth. The European Union and the U>S. Have banned seal products. Canada is preparing to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. PETA has set up a new website: OLympicShame2010.com so that you can help save baby seals.

More good news.

EPA IMPLEMENTS NON-ANIMAL EYE IRRITATION TESTING

On June 2nd, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that it will use a new labeling initiative which will mean the difference between life and death for countless rabbits that would otherwise be blinded and killed in inhumane and outmoded eye irritation tests. Such consumer groups as Procter and Gamble, Dial, Clorox, Colgate Palmolive, S>C> Johnson and Sons, etc. and animal protection organizations with support from the Institute for In Vitro Sciences have developed this groundbreaking effort!!!! According to the HSLF, the conventional animal test involved using crude 1940's scoring system, the degree of swelling, inflammation and other types of eye injury for up to 3 weeks WITHOUT PAIN RELIEF to determine the degree to which irritant effects are reversible over time.

Well first NEVER buy any seal products, that goes with out saying.

The second is always check any cleaning products and cosmetic products to make sure it says on the product. Not Tested On Animals. There are many companies out there that do not and as you can see from the article there will be many more. I was just recently browsing my cleaning product isle in the grocery to see how things were going and I was shocked to see how many companies have jumped on the band wagon with this. I am so very happy. I would always expect this from the companies that you find in your health food store, but not in the regular grocery. Go out there and give it a look.

Pleas spare our fellow living creatures from pain and torture and death. You don't need a seal coat or seal oil or want to have poor bunnies, yes bunnies, tortured because you should already know not to put dish soap in your eyes.

Check out www.leapingbunny.com for companies that do not test on animals. There are many great companies out there that are compassionate. Just to name a few, I use only Mary Kay cosmetics and Paul Mitchell hair products. They are both out to spare of furry friends from harm.

I'm a drop out from medical research long ago so I do believe that we really have little need of our furry friends for any type of testing.

  3. Yay! What great news for the seals! I always look to see if any of the products I buy are tested on animals. If they are,I won't buy them.I also buy cage-free,organic eggs, organic milk, and free range meat whenever I can.

Do you watch "Whale Wars?" those are some very brave people on The Steve Irwin, battling those Japanese whalers.I love it when they manage to entangle their propellers and throw rancid butter bombs at them!

  4. I have been meaning to watch. It looks very exciting. They are very brave people fighting for something really important.
If you can try and buy Free Range chicken eggs. Cage free doesn't always mean they get to run around. Good for you Tammy in trying to help all those critters out there.
